Often people loose their teeth because of decay, gum disease, failed bridges or crowns and trauma as a result of a sporting or motor vehicle accident. More often than not there is a combination of problems which has resulted in the loss of teeth. With the advances in modern implant dentistry there is no reason why any patient needs to have a gap in their smile, accept substandards of function and aesthetics, Patients should not allow loose dentures to govern what they can eat, or affect their confidence in social environments. What are implants? Dental implants can restore your smile and provide function whilst maintaining your bone and facial structure. We provide excellent standards in patient care within our fully equipped implant surgeries. At Zebra Dental we think that dental implant treatment should be more affordable for everyone – ask us about our finance options. Where appropriate, implants are perhaps the gold standard for tooth replacement. They bond with healthy bone and provide permanent support for dental crowns and dentures. Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth and can last a lifetime. Why choose dental implants? Dental implants, like natural teeth, stimulate the jaw and prevent bone loss. Plus, with dental implants, healthy teeth are not compromised. In fact, leading dental organisations recognise dental implants as the standard of care for tooth replacement. Why replace missing teeth? Losing one or more of your teeth creates a gap in your smile, affects your ability to chew properly, and can alter your diet and nutrition. In addition to these serious issues, tooth loss also causes bone loss. Tooth loss causes bone loss When a tooth is lost, the jawbone beneath it shrinks from lack of stimulation. Not only does losing teeth affect your smile, it also changes the shape of your face causing you to look prematurely aged. Tooth replacement A missing tooth can be replaced by a dental implant without altering the healthy adjacent teeth. Once the implant is placed, a post (or abutment) is attached providing support for your final crown. The value of dental implants far exceeds conventional treatment options. Financing options are available and payments can be tailored to your budget. Restoring Your Smile The implant treatment carried out by our experienced team can restore your failing / missing tooth with a crown retained by an implant in four basic phases. Phase 1 The first is the surgical placement of the implant into the bone, which will be done under local anaesthesia, likely to take approximately one hour. Surprisingly little pain is felt after receiving the treatment with most patients feeling a similar feeling of discomfort associated with a simple tooth extraction. Phase 2 This is the healing phase. This typically takes 6 - 8 weeks, during which time the fixture becomes rigidly integrated to the bone supporting it. Stitches that will have been used to close the surgical site at phase one will need to be removed approximately two weeks following placement. Phase 3 This phase involves a fairly simple procedure carried out under local anaesthetic to expose the integrated implant and connect the post through the gum. This is followed by a further short healing period of 10 days or so. Sometimes however we do not completely submerge the implant at the time of initial placement, deciding instead to use a “single stage” technique. If this has been done, phase three usually does not require local anaesthesia. Phase 4 The final stage is to take impressions of the implant(s) to record its position, enabling the technicians to construct the restorative work, e.g. a crown, which is then cemented or screwed on to the abutment. There are normally two or three appointments during this final phase. Would implants be right for me? First, you should decide whether implants could be right for you. Contact us to arrange an implant consultation and discussion and we will let you know the possibilities. Our team will be only too happy to help you with any questions you may have. If you decide to go ahead, this is what will happen:
Implants usually have two sections – the post in the jaw and an extension that is added later when the post is secure. Attaching the extension needs a small cut in the gum above the implant. You might have more than one implant. The replacement teeth might be fixed permanently (like a crown or bridge) or attached in a way which lets you remove them for cleaning (like a denture). Book a consultation today to discuss your requirements, needs and expectations and have a full report and treatment plan produced to allow you to determine the best option for your situation.
